Founded in 1961, Boise Office Equipment began as an office supply dealer selling out of a storefront in downtown Boise. BOE developed its reputation as a local company that concerns itself with local customers.
BOE first began selling copiers and other office equipment as the local Xerox Agent in 1991 and was the Xerox Agent of the Year for its region for 1993 and 1994. Although the Xerox products were consistently great, BOE wanted the ability to provide local service and supplies for their customers. Xerox did not give their Agents this ability, so BOE cut ties with Xerox in 1995 and began to market the Ricoh product line.
As an independent copier dealer, BOE could now provide local service and supplies to their customers and not force customers to use an 800 number.
In under 10 years, BOE became the largest copier dealer in the state of Idaho and received numerous national recognitions because of their local-based business philosophy. BOE added other product lines to increase their ability to help businesses of all sizes with varied requirements. Kyocera and Konica-Minolta strengthened BOE’s ability to give customers exactly what their businesses needed.
BOE was acquired by Global Imaging Systems in 2006. Global Imaging Systems was the fastest growing, most profitable copier company in the United States because their business philosophy matched that of BOE—do business locally. Global Imaging Systems added significant purchasing power to BOE while not changing BOE’s personnel or business model. This allowed BOE to have its largest and most successful year ever.
Global’s nationwide success did not go unnoticed. Xerox acquired Global Imaging Systems for a 52% premium in May of 2007, with a specific agenda and business plan—allow the Global dealers to operate as they have and give them the power of the Xerox products. Xerox estimates that they currently do not participate in almost 80% of the decisions made in small and medium sized businesses (SMB) in the U.S. Global Imaging Systems dealers, such as BOE, control a significant portion of that SMB marketplace and thus the union makes perfect sense.
BOE has now come full circle to our initial goal--provide customers with the finest products available, while continuing to use our own service personnel and stock machines, parts and supplies locally. BOE will continue to grow with this philosophy and will continue its local support of community organizations such as the BSU Broncos.
We look forward to these new opportunities and know that our most important assets are our customers and the people that work for BOE. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to a bright future.
